Homecoming Benefit Ball

Stevenson University’s Mission: I’m Home has been working in communities effected by natural disasters for ten years and I have the honor of serving as the organization’s current president. Liz McCartney, SBP co-founder and MIH community partner believes that “community is not defined by proximity.”
Mission I’m Home’s passion for disaster relief and recovery has worked its way into the greater Stevenson community following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose, Maria, and Nate. Students from all areas of campus were coming to Mission: I’m Home, S.G.A., and Student Activities searching for a way to help the victims of these disasters.
While donating material goods can be helpful, the most impactful donations are those of money and, especially, volunteering one’s time and efforts. After consulting with some clubs and MAP, it was decided to rebrand the annual Homecoming dance to be the Homecoming Benefit Ball with all ticket sales going directly to SBP (formerly known as St. Bernard Project), Mission I’m Home’s community partner.
I was in love with the idea of the Benefit Ball. After seeing the success of the Mustang Gala, we saw an opportunity to capitalize on the desire of students to have a fancy event where they could get dressed up. Many colleges have balls or galas to honor the University's birthday or homecoming-- so current world events provided the planning committee an ideal opportunity to combine philanthropy with festivities.
Our overall fundraising goal is $10,000, which is pretty lofty, but we would not have set it if we didn't think the Stevenson Community could step up to the challenge. I have personally worked with SBP on two separate occasions and I know that they will appreciate any amount we raise.
I cannot wait to see all the hard work of the planning committee come to fruition and I absolutely cannot wait to reveal our total fundraised amount on Saturday! The money we are raising will truly change the lives of those affected by natural disasters. Please by your tickets or make a donation at the Rock through Friday. Student tickets are $10 and guest tickets are $15.
