How MAP Helped Me As a Transfer Student

In August of 2015 I stepped on to the Stevenson campus as a student for the first time, however it wasn’t my first college experience. I already had two years of college and an associate’s degree under my belt. Despite my experience I was probably more nervous than most freshman; I had no friends, no idea if I would like my major, I was older and I only had two years to make the most of my Stevenson experience.
During orientation my new friends (also transfers) and I went to the Friday Night Fever dance. I wanted to get involved on campus and talking to Kris DeJesus (now MAP President) that night persuaded me MAP was the best way.
I jumped in head first and instantly fell in love. I volunteered for every event that I was available for and attended most meetings. I quickly went from thinking I would be bored in my room most nights to a student that was heavily involved in one of the largest clubs on campus. But most importantly I was loving school.
Being a transfer is a very interesting experience: you aren’t a freshman, but you aren’t a typical upper classman either. MAP was so inviting and made me feel like a normal student. I can’t say I wouldn’t love Stevenson just as much if I hadn’t joined MAP, but I can say for sure that joining made my transition to Stevenson as a transfer much easier. So, if you are a transfer and struggling because you aren’t sure exactly where you fit into the equation, come out to a MAP meeting because I promise you will fit perfectly in our club!
