Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

Murphy’s Law states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. In MAP, we encounter this truism almost every day. Events never go quite as planned. Maybe a laptop stops working, a performer is late to sound check, or probably both. But MAP is prepared for these inevitable mishaps, and students like you may never notice. Unfortunately not all “Murphyisms” are quite so subtle, because Murphy’s Law also covers weather.
As we have been painfully reminded twice in the last week, if we plan an event outdoors it. will. rain. The oft-requested return of PaintU was cut short on April 2nd as a powerful storm swept through the campus. Just this weekend we had snow at our first-annual Food Truck Rally. Snow. In April.
Frustrating though Murphy’s Law may be, every cloud has a silver lining. MAP has a ton of experience adjusting plans to accommodate unexpected changes. I mean, after having Carnival rained out two years in a row, no one is better at indoor carnivals than MAP. No one. Further, because of their experience, Mappies are always prepared to respond to situations with quick thinking and remarkable flexibility. PaintU is a case in point. Once the last song was called due the approaching winds, Mappies kicked it into gear and had the entire event emptied and cleaned up in an impressive 15 minutes, ensuring the safety of all of our students.
It is important to go into every aspect of life ready to adapt. Things never go quite as expected. But every time a plan goes off course, something new is learned and the next plan is made more robust.
So I say, let it snow! Figuratively, of course. It’s April.
