What MAP Means to Me

Salutations to all my fellow Mustangs out there!  My name is Luc Plaisance and I’m here to tell you what MAP means to me.

I’d like to start with asking you, “What is college all about?”  Is it about obtaining that hard earned degree?  Is it about discovering your true self in this weird existence we call life, or is it all about cramming for tests and hoping that your favorite Netflix show doesn’t add another new season right before finals?  I think it is all of that, but there is one factor I feel that is of utmost importance.  It’s about being part of a community as we go through life…a community that accepts who you truly are. It’s finding a group that cares and wishes to see you continue to mature and develop.  When you fall, they are there to pick you up, dust you off, and tell you to keep going.  That community for me is Mustang Activities and Programming, also known as MAP.

I am very fortunate to have found these outstanding individuals who I can proudly call friends. MAP members, or MAPpies, are the ones who provide the sweat, dedication, and brain power for many of the largest campus events and traditions. They provide the ideas and support MAP needs.  Without them, this club would not survive; with them, it thrives.  Then, there are the people of the executive board, whose main goal is to lead all of the MAP members.  Last, but not least, there is an individual who has dedicated her entire self to these causes.  This person is our golden compass, always guiding everyone in the right direction.  Her name is Hope Miller Miles and I could not ask for better advisor. Every MAPpie is a small part of something bigger.  As one, we make life at Stevenson bigger and better.

Lastly, we are all unique.  We all have different interests and seek our own path in life. We come from a variety of different backgrounds and will end up in disparate places, but every one of us has their own unique story to contribute.  This is what makes MAP so great.  Our diversity and dedication are our strengths.  We invite struggles and challenges with open arms, for we know that in unity we can make anything possible.  We all share and support each other for one cause at Stevenson and MAP. Our focus is to make our collective college experience better and to provide a memorable four years to every single person at the University.  Considering all this, I have to ask you one final question, what are you waiting for?  Join MAP now!
